Junior High ITerm
Can a small, suburban junior high change the world?
By Dr. Glenna Frederick, JH Principal
Change the world you say? I believe so and at CCJHS that is something that we want each of our students to pursue and achieve! Now world is a pretty big space to change....but if we put it in context, anytime we can influence anyone's world for the better -- change it for the better -- we have made a difference. That is our desire. We may be small....but we are mighty! And we know our Lord wants us to be change agents for Him!
At the end of March and first week of April, our students have the opportunity to learn, grow and influence in a variety of ways. We call it JH I-Term, and it is all about Influencing to Make a Positive ACTion in others and self: IMPACT-Term.
Each year, some of our 8th grade students have the opportunity to visit Washington D.C. and surrounding areas and learn about our nation and founding Christian principles. This has had a profound impact on those who have experienced this trip. They return not only more knowledgeable about our government, but also learn about the Christian foundation of our nation. This is definitely a positive endeavor!
The 7th and 8th grade students that remain on campus are given the opportunity to serve and help individuals and organizations in our community. From helping out at local food banks, to cleaning up area parks, to planting trees and pulling weeds, we have positively shared our energy and labor to make wherever we go better. Last year alone, we donated over 1,800 hours of service to the Puyallup Food Bank, Tacoma Metropolitan Parks, Pierce County Parks, and a local neighbor! That's pretty mighty in my book.
This year, 8th grade students will again have the opportunity to visit Washington D.C. and the rest of the student body will be involved in some type of service helping local charities and individuals in a variety of ways. More specific information will come in the next few months.
Until then, take a few minutes and see the IMPACT we had last year by watching the slide show below. I am confident you'll see that a small suburban junior high can make a difference -- and for some folks, their world is changed because of CCJH students!
