A FORWARD-FOCUSED, ETERNAL PERSPECTIVE
What an emotionally trying time we've been facing as we together navigate this unprecedented season! As I reflect on the extreme emotions we've all experienced (to one degree or another), I'm reminded that we serve a God who has experienced all the fullness of humanity and can empathize with EVERY human emotion.
Jesus, the God who put on human flesh, knows exactly how we feel and is our perfect example of how to respond during crises. Jesus wept, He was troubled, He was tired, He was happy, He was discouraged, He was angry, and He felt each and every emotion in between. We can trust that when we call out to Him, He fully and completely KNOWS how we feel. How incredibly comforting is this truth?
However, Jesus also models how to keep a perfect perspective through trials and suffering. He always kept His eyes forward-focused on His ultimate goal of the cross. At the same time, He always looked up to His heavenly Father for help, hope, and peace.
As Christ-followers, we are also called and empowered to keep forward-focused on our life's purpose and to look to our heavenly Father for ultimate help, hope, and peace. Paul explains this perfectly:
Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
— 2 Corinthians 4:16–18 (NIV)
These are troubling times, but we can look to Jesus to keep a forward-focused, right perspective on the purpose of our lives, and we must continuously fix our eyes upward to find true hope and peace.
What amazing comfort we have in Jesus, despite these chaotic and uncertain life circumstances!
