Joyful Reflection

To say we have navigated challenging circumstances this past year could easily be a major understatement. And yet, as this year comes to a close, we have so much to be grateful for and plenty of reasons to be content. Interestingly, if we get the final monthly focus of our spiritual theme correct (that theme being Unshakeable Trust), the natural outcome will be unshakeable joy and contentment as well. I’ve taken the liberty to expand our focus on trust this month to include that joy and contentment.
Paul tells us in Philippians 4:12, NIV, “I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation.” It is reasonable to contend that the secret of contentment is true joy—“The joy of the Lord is your strength” (Nehemiah 8:10). And true joy comes as a result of trusting God in all situations—“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight” (Proverbs 3:5-6).
So, whether we are looking back on what we now know to be true of 2021-22 or looking ahead to what we don’t yet know of 2022-23, we can do either from a position of gratitude and trust, with joy and contentment. That is the beauty of a life centered on Jesus. His joy truly is our strength, and in Him all things are possible.
My prayer for the year ahead is that we will continue to partner from a place of trust (trust in God and trust in each other), joy, and contentment. I am beyond blessed to walk this journey with you.
