God is faithful to keep His promises and love us unconditionally. For the month of October, we get to dive into being still because God is faithful. We can have faith in God because God is first faithful to us. Take a moment to reflect on that—to reflect on how God is faithful to you. This can be hard to fathom in our broken world. Maybe our alarm fails to go off and we don’t make it to the gym or that early morning meeting; or maybe a friend or loved one lets us down in a more significant way. When things and people often let us down, it can be hard to imagine a God who never lets us down. The Bible tells us that God faithfully keeps His promises, faithfully loves us unconditionally, and faithfully hears our prayers. God is faithful even in our broken world, and even when we doubt or make mistakes.
… Even when we doubt:
God is true to his word, reliable, and faithful. Even though we know this, we sometimes experience seasons of waiting or what feels like unanswered prayers … and doubt creeps in. In both the Old and New Testament, there are many examples that show God fulfilling His promises even when there is doubt. In Abraham and Sarah’s story, they doubted the ability to have a son because of their age, but God showed his faithfulness and gave them Isaac (Genesis 17:15–19, 21:1–7). With the Israelites, God showed faithfulness by bringing them out of Egypt into the promised land—A promise fulfilled after 40 years of wandering (Exodus 33:1, Joshua 24). How many years would you wander in the wilderness before starting to doubt? We doubt when we believe in our own timeline. Sometimes we need to be reminded that the timeline is God’s, and with patience comes faith. Be still in your mind; God is faithful to His promises even when we go through times of hardship, times of waiting, and times of doubt.
… Even when we make poor decisions:
God is faithful to love us unconditionally. In the New Testament, God showed us faithfulness through His unconditional love by sending His Son to die on the cross for us. God did this even when He knew we’d continue to sin (Romans 5:6-11). As imperfect Jesus followers, we will fall short and sometimes make mistakes or poor decisions. Even when we fall short, God is faithful and shows His unconditional love through His Son, Jesus. “For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit” (1 Peter 3:18, NIV).
Even when we show a lack of faith in our minds (when we doubt) and in our actions (when we make poor decisions), God is still faithful. We can be still in our mind because God is faithful.
God is faithful to hear our prayers:
Global Week of Student Prayer – Last week we participated in Global Week of Student Prayer. Topics we prayed over as a school district included unity, safety, strength, family, and our spiritual theme: Be Still (Even When). There is something so refreshing and unifying about praying together over topics we care deeply about and desires we hold as a community.
