A few weeks ago, I snagged a nearby footstool to stand on so I could reach the art supplies high above the microwave in our kitchen. It was time for my kids and me to do some coloring together. As I got up on the footstool, I felt a slight wiggle in the structure of it but decided to ignore it because I was excited to get started right away. However, as I stood up on my toes to reach the colored pencils way in the back of the shelf, I heard a slight crack and started to regret that decision. The pressure of my weight became too much for the compromised footstool, ultimately causing it to break. As it did, I came crashing down along with the broken footstool.
The hard lesson for me that day was that the things we put our trust in ultimately determine how stable we are. If we put our trust in unstable, shaky things, we will come crashing down. If, however, the things we put our trust in are stable, our foundation will hold us firm and strong.
Throughout the month of May, we will be exploring what it means to have Unshakeable Trust. In many ways, we will be simply reiterating what we have been saying throughout this school year—that when we build our lives on God by putting our trust in Him, we can never be shaken. Even when times get tough, we can have confidence that He will never leave us nor forsake us. If we put our trust in Him, in the end, He will renew our strength. Why? Because He is the One who is Unshakeable.
Throughout the month of May, our students will hear stories of characters, like the prodigal son (Luke 15:11-32), whose examples show us what happens when we put our trust in things other than God. On the other hand, they will hear stories of people like the Israelites, who overcame significant challenges because they trusted in God (Exodus 14:3-18). Finally, they will hear how when we trust in Jesus, we can have salvation that He made available to us through His life, death, and resurrection (Romans 10:9).
My hope and prayer is that as we close out the school year, the things we put our trust in will find us firm and strong because of the One in whom we put our trust.
Blessings!
