Veteran’s Day at CCHS - Title

In 1928 the United States Congress passed a concurrent resolution commemorating November 11 as Armistice Day in order to honor the American soldiers who had served in World War I. Twenty-six years and two major wars later, Congress passed an act to change the name of the holiday to Veterans Day, in order to pay homage to the soldiers who had fought in all wars during our nation’s history. The 1954 proclamation issued by President Dwight Eisenhower, stated in part that we should, “. . . solemnly remember the sacrifices of all those who fought so valiantly, on the seas, in the air, and on foreign shores, to preserve our heritage of freedom, and let us reconsecrate ourselves to the task of promoting an enduring peace so that their efforts shall not have been in vain.” Today as a grateful nation we continue this tradition by taking time to honor all those who have selflessly answered the call of service in our armed forces.

Cascade Christian High School will be recognizing Veteran’s Day on Wednesday November 10th. There will be performances by the school choir and band as well as a panel discussion. The panel includes two former and one active member of the US. Army. Michael Hawkins, science teacher at CCJHS, was a Sergeant Major. Ryan Parsons, father to a CCHS students, was a Master Sergeant. And Jake Petersen, husband of Courtney Petersen, is currently a First Lieutenant stationed at JBLM. We pray that this service honors former and current members of our armed forces and gives our students insight as to what serving truly entails.
