Music and Performing Arts at McAlder

February 16, 2022
By Mrs. Leach, Music Specialist

Greetings from Mrs. Leach and Music/Performing Arts at McAlder Elementary!

We have been busy learning some music theory, taking some tests, and playing games to learn music theory. We continue to come together each week to worship God through song at our chapels. In the intermediate chapel (for grades 4–6), students volunteer to be the worship leaders as each grade takes turns leading. At the primary chapel (for grades K–3), students from the 3rd grade classes volunteer to be the worship leaders each week. This is a unique opportunity for the McAlder 3rd graders, since we had to go to two chapels each week to accommodate the tremendous growth in the number of students attending McAlder. Our gym just could not hold everyone in grades K–6 at one time!

Students in grades 4–6 will soon begin learning how to play the tone chimes, and each grade will be learning a piece on the tone chimes to play at their spring program. All elementary students have started working on their spring musicals, and tryouts for parts will be held in February with performances to be held in May.

I love being able to share with McAlder students the gift of music and the performing arts that God has blessed me with. And I am thrilled that I get to share music and the performing arts from a biblical worldview with our students!
