All In—Committed to Loving Others

January 16, 2020
By Joshua Stines

Have you ever noticed that it is often in moments of giving that we are reminded of what we have? Isaiah Zetterberg, a senior at CCS, had one of those moments recently when he completed an assignment for the Spiritual Disciplines class. In their study of the discipline of service, students were asked to find a place to serve. Isaiah chose a ministry of his church that accepts nonperishable donations from Amazon Fresh and gives to families in need.

“I helped unload trucks and give food away to families in need,” Isaiah said. “I learned that I am blessed beyond belief, and it made me realize that it feels good to serve and see smiles on people’s faces.”

Giving and receiving is at the heart of this month’s spiritual theme here at CCS: All In — Committed to Loving Others. We can commit to loving others because we have been given much. God gave us His one and only Son. We can freely give because we have been freely given to. And sometimes it is not until we commit to giving love to others that we get a glimpse of what God has given us. Isaiah is a good example of this.

Serving is a way to show God's glory to others. We should let everything we do be done in love.

Through this blog, I felt that service for others is very honorable and helpful action for others and myself. Practicing in daily life is really important after we learn spiritual discipline.

That is so awesome! We are so incredibly blessed and the fact that you take away your time to do things for others really shows your character.
