Do you have a favorite Christmas song? Maybe it’s something fun and upbeat like “Jingle Bell Rock” or something sentimental and classic like “Silent Night.” My favorite Christmas carol isn’t necessarily the most well-known, but it sums up the spirit of this season so well. The first verse of “Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus” goes like this:
Come, thou long expected Jesus,
born to set thy people free;
from our fears and sins release us,
let us find our rest in thee.
Israel’s strength and consolation,
hope of all the earth thou art;
dear desire of every nation,
joy of every longing heart.
In this crazy world we live in, Christmas music gives us much-needed reminders of the joy, hope, peace, and amazing love that God sent to Bethlehem 2,000 years ago and that gift which still lives with us today. The title of our Christmas programs this year is “Real Life,” and both programs remind us of the real, full, and vibrant lives we get to live because of God’s gift to the world—the hope of the earth, the desire of every nation, and the joy of every longing heart—Jesus.
I’d like to personally invite you to experience the “Real Life” Christmas programs on Monday, December 12 at 6:00 p.m. (grades K–2) and 7:15 p.m. (grades 3–6). I can’t wait to showcase the hard work of our students and celebrate the coming of our long-expected Savior!
