“We’re gonna sing, we’re gonna play, we’re gonna have a great day!”

“We’re gonna sing, we’re gonna play, we’re gonna have a great day!” is the catchy chorus of a greeting song you may hear echoing in the upstairs hallways of Puyallup Elementary on any given day. Each week I have the privilege of singing with and playing with and having great days with 332 of the best kids in all of Puyallup!

From kindergarten to 6th grade, students find my classroom a safe place to explore, create, perform, and respond to music. Teaching kids to sing is simply scratching the surface of the layers and layers of what I get to do each week! Music is a launch pad for kids to explore and understand the gifts of teamwork and experience the joy of using their imagination, expressing who God created them to be, and connecting to one another. Amidst the fun and silliness, students are often surprised to know that Music Class is chalk-a-block full of learning! Math, reading, writing, science, and social-emotional skills are all involved in a robust music curriculum. I truly believe that the kids here at Puyallup Elementary are the light of the world … and they light up my world!

From working with your students to leading a community choir to directing worship at my church, I can’t seem to stop singing! In all seriousness, what a privilege it is to worship the Lord with every part of my life. If I’m not singing, you could probably find me thrift shopping, listening to the BibleProject podcast, or watching nature documentaries—and always with a cup of coffee in hand.

In this wild season of life, I thank God every day that I am at Cascade Christian. Nothing compares to the moments I get to share with your kids, whether it's praying, talking about the Bible, or reminding them just how much Jesus loves them. My prayer is that the learning which takes place in my classroom is planting seeds that will continue to grow over a lifetime. At the end of the day, if just one student grew in their understanding of the love of Jesus, I couldn’t be happier.
