A Future and a Hope

"Thank you that I get to go to this school.”

Each year, generous givers like you are the difference for students at CCS who, without your gifts, would be unable to stay enrolled at the school they love. This is huge for them. They love their school and their friends. And when that first day of school rolls around in the fall, they want to be among their friends walking through those doors. You make this possible for them.

One Student’s Story

When Puyallup fifth grader Blake Maggart was barely preschool age, his family made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

It was August 22, 2010. His mom, Teresa, shares their story:

“I had always had it on my heart for Blake to go to a faith-based school and have a Christian education. Blake’s dad, Sgt. Brandon Maggart, was on his second tour of duty in Iraq. And the day before Blake’s third birthday we received notification that he was killed. So, our world just crumbled around us. And I didn’t know how to pick up the pieces; I didn’t know how to move forward. It seemed impossible. How do I move on from this?”

Meanwhile you realized that you could lift up a child by giving to help students attend Cascade Christian Schools. And if you listen closely, you can hear your gift in the rest of Blake’s story.

Teresa continues, “But I still felt that calling, that a faith-based education was the route that God wanted us to take.” She held onto a Bible verse during those dark days. That verse, Jeremiah 29:11, reads like a promise: “ ‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ says the Lord. ‘They are plans for good … to give you a future and a hope.’ ”

She describes the subsequent years and coming to Cascade: “God made a way for our family. He is a father to the fatherless. It was just a blessing to know that there are people who want to come alongside you and help the kids get a faith-based Christian education.” Teresa directs her thoughts toward you and continues, “Thank you. Because of you and your donations—your coming alongside our family—Blake is able to go to school here. He is able to have the education that I feel God has always placed on our hearts, and that opportunity that we may not otherwise have had. We appreciate it.

“Here we are almost eight years later. I’ve remarried, Blake is getting a Christian education, and he’s going to have a little brother in a couple of months. So we couldn’t be in a better place. God is so good.”

“My favorite subject is math, out of all of them.”

Blake enjoys playing wall ball at recess with friends like Caleb, Carson, and Kyle. His favorite subject “out of all of them,” he says, is math. He memorizes the weekly Bible verses and quotes a favorite: “John 11:25 and 26: I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die. And whoever lives and believes in me shall never die.”

The sacrifice to have Blake at CCS is eased by your gift. If the difference it made in the world were merely felt during his days at school, the gift would still be of great value in God’s eyes. But the Lord knows, as do we, that the gifts which help a child stay at CCS will have a lasting impact.

What a great way to honor a fallen soldier—by helping his son receive a Christian education. Thank you.
