Celebrating Grandparents Day!

March 13, 2024
By Kevin Proctor, Assistant Principal

Last week we were privileged to host Grandparent's Day at CCS Frederickson, and what a day it was! This event is one of my personal favorites at CCS, as we welcome these remarkable people onto our campus. Our students did a wonderful job of providing our guests a sneak peek of the upcoming spring program with their performance of songs from Willy Wonka Jr. The kids also led our guests in worship with a few songs from our chapel services. Grandparents were then treated to a special activity in their grandchild's classroom before heading to the book fair.

One of the reasons this day is so special to me is because of the impact my own grandfather, Harry Proctor, had on my life and the legacy he left behind for his family. My grandfather had a difficult childhood. He was both abused and neglected. Yet despite his circumstances, God was at work. At just 10-years-old, Harry decided he was going to start attending the church across the street by himself. At first, he would tell you it was because he liked the sound of the music, but within two years, he was baptized and proclaiming the name of Jesus by the age of 12.

This decision had a lasting impact, not just on him but on the Proctor family for generations to come. Years later, my grandfather would ensure his own son (my father) was baptized and grew up in the faith, which then was passed down to me, and is now being passed down to my own children. I often think about what would have happened, or the man I would be today, if my grandfather had not given his life to Christ those many years ago, forever changing the trajectory of our family line. I truly believe that because of God's grace and my grandfather's decision to follow Jesus, that this has greatly impacted who I am as a person today.

Grandparents are role models. They are great sources of wisdom and help guide us throughout our lives. When life gets difficult, they are extra support when we need it the most. They give us comfort, joy, laughter, and celebrate with us the special moments of life, such as birthdays and holidays. As I reflect on the influence my own grandparents had in my life, it is with great pleasure I see so many of our students' grandparents taking the time to come to our campus to bond with their own grandchildren on this special day. To all the grandparents, we are grateful for you and are blessed to have you in our lives!
