As we enter December, we settle into the comforting and exciting anticipation of Christmas, the beautiful holiday that focuses on the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. In our imperfect world, we also face distractions this time of year, and, in addition to joy and reunions, this season might also come with grief or the pressures and stress of gifts and gatherings.
As you reflect on where you are this season, I encourage you to take time each day to be still in your heart, resting in the comfort of knowing that God is with you. This December, our focus is "Be Still in Your Heart: God is With Us"—a perfectly fitting theme for Christmas.
You may start to hear Christmas carols in the school’s lobby, and one that comes to mind in this moment is “O Come, O Come Emmanuel.” The name Emmanuel, meaning God with us, reminds us of the profound truth of Christmas: God sent His Son to live among us and ultimately die for our sins.
This beautiful name, Emmanuel, first appears in Isaiah and is later quoted in Matthew 1:23 (NIV), "The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel (which means ‘God with us’).”
What comes to mind when you hear the words God with us? Perhaps it brings reassurance, peace, or hope. I was able to connect with a few people in our community recently, and I asked them for their thoughts on this month’s focus: “God is with us”. Check them out below:
