CCS Recreation Enrichments!

March 15, 2023
By Kristin Hannus, Director of Recreation

Our KPrep and elementary students are wonderful and filled with wonder! They greet the world with inquisitive attitudes, wide eyes, and welcoming smiles. With that in mind, Cascade Christian’s Recreation Department offers many impactful enrichment opportunities all year long. Please see our website for our spring enrichments!

WOW! It is also the perfect time to highlight the upcoming Thrive summer enrichment minicamps. Our enrichment specialists design these camps to help enhance our campers’ love for exploring God's world around them! Campers will make new friends and gain valuable self-confidence during these 2 ½-hour minicamps, which are held four days a week. We offer everything from cooking, art, gardening, dance, and a variety of sports activities for both our KPreppers and elementary campers. See our website for more information. Space fills up fast and registration opens April 2023.

We are so proud of our Recreation elementary strings program and the beautiful music that our students create. It has been a wonderful year! Our orchestra students recently participated in the regional junior high solo and ensemble contest on Saturday, March 4, and received a rating of Superior! Our 6th graders, Ruby Reed and Sarai Bohanon, played solos and received Superior ratings as well! Amazing job!

In addition to the arts, sports, and other elective class offerings such as culinary and engineering classes, lunch times at the JH/HS have been filled with a couple of fun clubs!

Jesus Club

Jesus Club is led by high school students every Thursday during lunch! Last week in Jesus Club, Noelle (grade 10) and Edwin (grade 12) dove into Matthew 14:22–33.

After reading through the Scripture, Noelle shared, “Peter is in the midst of a storm and has his eyes on Jesus but loses sight of Him. So he calls out to Jesus and puts his hope and faith back in God … and [Jesus] pulls him back up. We need to put our faith in Jesus. He is the only one that will fill our void.”

The theme of the day was putting our trust in God. Edwin shared his testimony of how he needs God to get him through tough times: “Set your eyes on God. Put your stress and struggles in His hands. You need one-on-one time with God in addition to community and group prayer.”

Lunchtime ended with prayer and a feeling of encouragement through the reading of Romans 15:13 (NIV), “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”

Chess Tournaments

Also during lunch, you can find chess tournaments in Mr. Topp’s classroom! Teachers and students have been exercising their brains through lunch periods with games of chess.
