    Junior High and High School

At the JH/HS level, our choral department is designed to offer a comprehensive choral education. The beginning choir (Cante) is our introduction to Choir class. The next step, our intermediate choir (VOX), is a mixed JH/HS choir. Then finally, we have our advanced audition choir (Voci Potenti). Each choir focuses on improving musical knowledge as well as skill. We start together; we finish together. When you join choir, you join our family.

    Cante

The primary goal in junior high choir is to glorify God through music and have fun doing it. We start out the year singing unison and 2-part songs and progress to 3-part songs after the middle of the year. We focus on learning correct vocal technique and posture, theory skills, and sight-singing skills, as well as singing in foreign languages. We also spend time on team-building activities that involve everyone, to encourage each other and see each other in a positive way. It is an excellent venue for building on foundational skills taught during elementary music classes.

We have many wonderful singing opportunities that include participation in events such as the following:

    • Elementary Choir Tour
    • Fall Choir Concert
    • Christmas Caroling in the Community
    • Christmas Celebration
    • JH Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) Festival
    • Spring Choir Concert
    • Finale (Final Concert of the Year)

    VOX

Our mixed JH/HS concert choir, VOX, aims to go beyond junior high–level repertoire and begin learning more-advanced 3-part pieces, progressing to 4-part harmonies. Students are stretched in their rhythmic abilities, vocal range, and musical vocabulary. They also continue to work on music theory skills, such as interval listening and reading, sight-singing, and intonation—and of course, foreign languages.

This group participates in events and experiences such as the following:

    • Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) Festival
    • Fall Choir Concert
    • Christmas Celebration
    • Christmas Caroling in the Community
    • WA State Solo and Ensemble Contest
    • Spring Choir Concert
    • Finale (Final Concert of the Year)

    Voci Potenti

Our advanced choir, called Voci Potenti, is an audition choir that takes all the students’ built-up knowledge and practice on the road. We participate in multiple festivals, community events, and contests throughout the year. Our focuses in this class are to reach a higher level of excellence and proficiency in vocal technique, performance etiquette, and varying repertoire.

This group participates in events and experiences such as the following:

    • CWU Fall Choral Classic
    • Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) Festival
    • Fall Choir Concert
    • Christmas Celebration
    • Christmas Caroling in the Community
    • WA State Solo and Ensemble Contest
    • Spring Choir Concert
    • Scheduled WorldStrides Festival
    • Finale (Final Concert of the Year)
