Why join the military?

Many choose to enlist because of their patriotism and a sense of duty. Joining the military also provides job training and economic stability. There is pay and benefits, travel opportunities, and educational opportunities. You must be a U.S. Citizen or a resident alien to enlist.

During your Freshman and Sophomore years: 

  • Research different military branches and career opportunities.
  • Attend a college and career fair at your high school.
  • Check the calendar for upcoming events.
  • Make sure you are on the path toward graduation.
  • Start planning courses that align with your chosen military career path.
  • Meet with your Counselors to learn more. 

During your Junior and Senior years: 

  • Continue your research.
  • Attend the college and career fair at your high school. Check the calendar for upcoming events.
  • Meet with a local military recruiter.
  • Take the ASVAB both years.   
  • Speak with your counselor about joining a college ROTC program.

During your Senior year: 

  • Enlist with your local recruiter after you turn 17.
  • Pass a Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) medical exam.
