Come See Our JH/HS Play This Week!

November 15, 2021
By Krista Severeid, JH/HS Theatre Director

I’m honored to serve as the CCS JH/HS theatre director, and for my 10th show here, I've chosen to direct Almost, Maine by John Cariani. When I was selecting our 2021-22 season, God put a Scripture on my heart. James 1:17 says: “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” In this play, we see the mysterious majesty of creation in the northern lights; the joy and heartache of changeable human love; the beauty of language when simple, everyday people attempt to express their deepest feelings; and best of all, the spark of creativity God placed in His image bearers, our own student actors, technicians, designers, and crew. These are all gifts from above, from our amazing heavenly Father, whose love, unlike any other, is UNSHAKEABLE.

My first introduction to this play was through watching a fellow HS director’s production. It seemed a perfect show for high school because of the sweet, surprising stories and the sheer number of great roles. In a typical play, there are just a couple of main characters who carry the story and have the big dramatic arc we follow. But Almost, Maine is a series of vignettes about different couples who live in the same fictional town. Each story has its own arc, and each character changes from the beginning of the scene to the end. This means that every actor you see on stage is the star of their own 10-minute scene! It also means that they have all worked extremely hard to prepare this play for you. It is exciting to see so many new actors take the stage this year. We have every grade represented, from 7th through 12th grade, and they are all very talented.

We hope you can join us!
