Junior High & High School Athletics

January 25, 2023
By DJ Heltsley, Athletic Director

Winter sports are in full swing at the junior high and high school! Just before break we wrapped up our JH Winter 1 season, which included an undefeated girls soccer team and another successful season for our boys basketball team. We’re excited to have our first competitions in the Winter 2 season beginning for our boys soccer and girls basketball teams.

Our HS winter sports also have many exciting things going on right now, with only a couple of weeks remaining in their regular season. Our boys and girls basketball teams are both currently in position to qualify for the playoffs, our competitive cheer team just qualified for the WIAA state championships, and our wrestling team has a chance to go undefeated in dual meets and secure a Nisqually League championship TONIGHT at 6:15 p.m. on our campus!

We’d love to see you at one of our upcoming Senior Night contests:

• Tonight—Wrestling vs Vashon for Nisqually League Championship
o 6:15 p.m. in The Den (new JH gym)

• Tuesday, January 31—Varsity Basketball (and Cheer) vs Charles Wright
o Girls Game—5:30 p.m. in The Valley (HS gym)
o Boys Game—7:00 p.m. in The Valley (HS gym)

Growing in Hope

January 18, 2023
By Jennifer Walling, Principal

This month, we get to focus on what it means to be ROOTED by “Growing in Hope.” Together, we are being encouraged by the truths in God’s Word that point us to real and lasting hope.

Last week, we held an MLK assembly for the JH/HS that focused on the connections between Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech and biblical passages that address the topics of justice, hope, and freedom.

The beauty of God’s Word is that it provides all the answers we need to address any issue, struggle, or sin surrounding concepts of race. The big-picture truth is that Jesus is the HOPE of the WORLD and apart from Him, we cannot meaningfully address and resolve issues of the human condition. The true justice, hope, and freedom we long for is ultimately found through Christ.

We’ve had a great month of chapels, classes, and events that are shaping lives. And we look with anticipation to our upcoming Spiritual Emphasis Week and IMPACT Term as we continue to deepen our roots of faith and discover ways the Lord wants to grow us!

commUNITY!

Greetings, Cougar Family!

This weekend I was attending church and happened upon a group of five CCS parents who had gathered afterward. It was evident they were having an intense conversation. As it turns out, one mother of three CCS students was sharing how her husband, the students’ father, had been diagnosed with cancer, the tumors described as innumerable. The support, empathy, and care shown by those who were listening was profound. When I asked if we could pray, they not only agreed but proceeded to embrace one another in a holy huddle. The moment ended with hugs, offers to help with carpooling, and appointments to bring dinner to the family.

This is only one of MANY stories of how Cascade Christian Schools is not only a place where learning happens. It is a place where love happens, a place where support along the journey happens—in our grief and in our joy. It is COMMUNITY, and I am so honored and blessed to be a part of it.

“Our need to belong is not rational, but it is a constant that exists across all people in all cultures. It is a feeling we get when those around us share our values and beliefs. When we feel like we belong, we feel connected and we feel safe.”    —Simon Sinek, Start with Why: How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone to Take Action

Welcome to 2023 at CCS!

By Dr. Ken Friesen, Superintendent

Greetings, Cascade Christian Community,

Welcome back from Christmas break! We have much to be thankful for as we look back on the first part of the year and as we anticipate what is in store for the new calendar year.

On behalf of all the staff here at Cascade Christian, I want to express to you how much we value our partnership with you in the journey of teaching and training our students to become discerning leaders. It truly is a joy and a privilege to come alongside you in this.

I also want to be sure you are aware of the importance of reserving your students’ spots for the 2023-24 school year through completing what we refer to as the Continuous Enrollment process.

Most of your accounts are set up to have the Continuous Enrollment fee automatically assessed, in which case there is nothing for you to do. If you are not certain that is the case, be sure to check your FACTS account for the first installment, which is scheduled to be drawn on January 20. If at any point you have questions about the process, please call the Business Office at (253) 841-1776 and ask for assistance.

Thank you again for choosing Cascade Christian and may 2023 be a blessed year for you all.
