“Ask a group of American teenagers what questions they feel pressure to figure out, and the answers aren’t what you’d expect. Today’s 13–18-year-olds aren’t just wondering who to sit with at lunch or whether someone likes them back. They’re wondering whether their generation will have a future, whether truth is knowable, whether anyone genuinely cares, whether God is real,” (“New Research: The Big Questions on Teens’ Minds Today.” Barna Research, June 2026.).
Our minds are battlefields.
They can be gardens where shalom flourishes, cultivating peace and beauty, and where truth reigns. Yet, they can also become places of chaos, allowing fear and hopelessness to root and multiply.
The thoughts we allow to ruminate often shape what we believe, how we perceive ourselves and the world around us, and, ultimately, how we live.
Our minds are battlefields.
But, if we have been made new in Christ, our minds are no longer left to be formed by the world and ourselves. They belong to him.
The research referenced above provides a glimpse into the questions occupying the minds of young people today. These are not trivial questions; these are urgent and weighty. They are questions about identity, truth, belonging, purpose, and hope.
And when we wrestle with questions this significant with no firm foundation of truth, our minds can quickly become places of anxiety, despair, or confusion. Where can we turn for answers? Who can we trust when there’s no shortage of competing voices?
God has not left us without direction.
He reveals what is true through his Word. He transforms how we think through his Spirit.
The gospel reminds us that we belong to Christ, and in him, we find an unshakeable foundation.
This November, we will spend each week exploring how God’s Word renews our minds. Our prayer is that, as a community, we would grow in our ability to think truthfully, live faithfully, and find our hope in Jesus, even when confronted with life’s most difficult questions.
A renewed mind is not one that never wrestles with hard questions or doubt; instead, it is a mind being transformed by the truth of God and committed to recognizing the lies of the world in order to walk in the leading of the Holy Spirit.
This November, may we each experience the promise of Romans 8:6, which says, “the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.”
