Look at What the Lord Has Done!

May 29, 2024
By Josh Kristoff, Principal

Hello, Cougar Faithful!

This is probably my favorite blog to write all year as I get to share about all the amazing things the Lord has done this year at Cascade Christian High School.

Spiritual Growth

The Lord is at work on our campus in a mighty and tangible way. This year, the Holy Spirit’s work in the lives of our students has been palpable. I have tons of stories I wish I could share, but I will stick to summarizing all that’s happened. This school year…

  • Students accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior.
  • Students were baptized.
  • Students encouraged others to take their relationship with Jesus more seriously and more intentionally.
  • Students chose to eat lunch together at Jesus club to hear what the Lord is doing in the lives of their classmates.
  • Students chose to study God’s word together during lunch.
  • Students have been hungry for a deeper relationship with the Lord and are truly seeking Him!

Excellence in Education

It is difficult to quantify the successes that happen each and every day in the classroom. The best part of my job is dropping into classrooms and watching our teachers teach and students learn. Our teachers are passionate about Jesus, their students, and their subject. Our teachers create dynamic learning experiences for our students to engage in. Overall, learning is happening often at a high level daily at CCS. I am proud of our teachers and students for the educational environment that we have on our campus.

Excellence in Athletics

God has blessed our students and coaches this school year with success in athletics. This school year…

  • Our boys golf team were state champions! Burke McFarland (Sr), Jacob Janho (Sr), and Zeke Prociw (So) all finished in the top 5 at the state tournament.
  • Our girls fastpitch softball team made it to the state tournament and finished in the top 8. This was the first time a Nisqually League team has won a game at state in over a decade.
  • Our girls volleyball team finished in the top 8 at the state tournament.
  • Our track and field team had four different athletes place in the top 7 in their event at the state tournament.
  • Our girls basketball team, boys soccer team, five members of the cross country team, and three members of the girls golf team all made it to the state tournament.
  • Our boys wrestling team had 7 wrestlers make it to the state tournament. Clayton Qualey (Sr) finished 2nd and Aiden Kucera (Fr) finished 6th.

Excellence in Performing Arts

God has brought some extremely talented individuals to our school. Our performing arts teachers and students are growing a program that brings honor and glory to our Lord Jesus Christ. This school year…

  • Our theatre program performed The Sound of Music which featured CCS students from third grade to seniors. It was an amazing show with Joeli Kramer (So) excellently filling the role of Maria.
  • Our choir program performed at multiple locations during a choir tour that started in Tacoma and ended on the Oregon coast near Tillamook.
  • Our band program continues to grow and thrive under the leadership of Band Director Bryan Botka.

Excellence in Robotics

A few years ago, God’s plan for Jeff Norton was to join the CCS teaching staff. Prior to CCS, Mr. Norton had over 20 years of experience leading HS robotics teams. This year, Jeff partnered with fellow CCS teacher Lana Duckworth to launch our first robotics team. By God’s grace, we experienced tons of success which culminated in unexpectedly qualifying for the regional tournament in Portland, Oregon.

Overall, it has been a fantastic year at Cascade Christian High School. I apologize for forgetting something noteworthy, but there is just too much to fit it all into one blog!

It is truly a blessing to lead in such an amazing place.

Parents for Cascade!

May 22, 2024
By Heidi Grosso, Community Engagement and Social Media Facilitator

Parents for Cascade (PfC) was created to bring support to students, teachers, and administration through partnership with parents on each school campus. The vision of the leaders in place is to create a community culture that is connected, caring, and Christ-centered, a vision that has been promoted and in evidence because of the work of this year’s PfC teams across the district of Cascade Christian Schools.

Esha Hart, a PfC leader at Frederickson, shared, “Being involved in PfC has given me the opportunity to have some beautiful and meaningful friendships. We get to do life together! We help support one another during the ups and downs of life. I am forever blessed and grateful for that in my life.”

Tara Walker, a PfC leader at McAlder, stated, “We choose and continue to be at Cascade Christian Schools because of our wonderful McAlder Campus community that feels like family! We have so many people who step up to serve in their giftings, whether it's on staff or as a parent volunteer. The collaboration between both staff and parents makes for strong connections!”

Each campus has a different PfC tribe, and the engagement varies from holding monthly meetings, hosting family events, and giving classroom support, but the PfC pulls together with particular excellence to celebrate our teachers! What a joy to see the effort and unity of our parent community on display across the district during teacher appreciation week every spring.

Jackie Roethel, a PfC leader at Puyallup Early Learning Center, shared, “We dove into planning mode in February this year to curate a fun week for the PELC teachers and staff. Our theme was “Superheroes,” to celebrate what rock stars and superstars they all are. We wanted to be creative and offer various ways parents could get involved, at any level, to honor the teachers. There was a fun backdrop with teacher faces on paddles to hold, capes to wear, and a balloon arch to complete the fun! Each day involved good food and an opportunity to celebrate our teachers. Our PfC came together and met new parents through the planning and fundraising process. It was great to see this all come to life and celebrate our team at the PELC!”

Parents in our PfC continue to choose this school both at enrollment time and beyond! Jennifer Wiseman, a PfC leader at Puyallup Elementary, shared more: “How much the teachers care for our kids and pray over them is why we continue to choose CCS for our family, as well as the fact that CCS is helping raise such faith-filled leaders in our children who are going to go out and make an impact in our world. One of my favorite things over this past year has been the times when I heard from high school students about how CCS has changed them and how impactful their mission trips have been in their lives.”

There is opportunity for YOU in the PfC at Cascade Christian Schools! Junior high parent Erica Corliss stated, “I want parents to know that joining the PfC brings you into the tight-knit community of Cascade Christian Schools. It offers the chance to connect with other parents, support the Cascade Christian staff, and plays an active role in enhancing our children’s academic success.” And Suzy Hoover, who has two high school students at CCS, told us, “PfC connects parents to be able to bless teachers in the junior high and high school. As our kids grow up and we naturally pull away from school because they need their independence, sometimes the teachers get forgotten. Our PfC never wants that to happen!”

“Feeling connected is a natural human instinct we all long to attain, and the PfC gives parents a safe space to build a connection. The opportunities are limitless at CCS and seen in volunteering at a bake sale, setting up lunch, supporting a teacher in class, or attending a monthly PfC meeting. Through these opportunities, parents can engage in personal and meaningful connections while feeling valued, understood, and involved.” Kristal Weber, CCS Frederickson parent, said this after years of being invested in the CCS community.

We want and need YOU to be a part of PfC! Get involved for the 2024-25 school year now

“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” —Hebrews 10:24-25 (NIV)

Celebrating Teachers!

May 08, 2024
By Ken Friesen, EdD Superintendent

To say that CCS teachers are amazing and deserving of being celebrated is one of the biggest understatements that could be made. We are beyond blessed with the teachers God has called to serve at CCS for the 2023-24 school year. And each year, you have let us know that our teachers are one of the main reasons you choose to stay at CCS. In the early learning through high school programs, we have more than 150 teachers, breakers, teacher assistants, and multiple types of specialists directly impacting student lives on a day-to-day basis. Thank you for all of the ways you show your appreciation and support to these amazing professionals not only during National Teacher Appreciation Week but all year long.

And while we know that year to year it is very normal for God to call some teachers away and as a result call new teachers here, I am pleased and excited to share that we anticipate very little turnover from this year to next. So, not only do we get to celebrate our more than 150 amazing teachers this year, but we get to celebrate most of those same teachers next year. Praise God for His enduring goodness!
